Adept Ghostwriting – Timeline & Evidence (Feb 18 – Sep 1, 2025)
Summary: Between Feb 18 and Sep 1, 2025, I paid a total of $8,500 to Adept entities and their processors for: (1) a $7,500 publishing/marketing package (with $2,500 down and $5,000 due only upon achieving “bestseller” status and 400% ROI), (2) a separate $3,000 “ISBN” fee (despite ISBNs costing ~$125), and (3) a separate $3,000 “unlimited printing for life + free shipping” upgrade. As of Sep 1, 2025, no promised deliverables exist: no Amazon listing with my own ISBN, no marketing, no author copies, and the printing promises contradict Amazon’s own rules and pricing. I have filed a BBB complaint and am preparing formal reports to consumer protection agencies.
Payment Timeline (verifiable by bank statements)
- Feb 18, 2025 — $1,500 paid to Texonna Marketing (part of the $2,500 down payment).
- Mar 12, 2025 — $1,000 paid to Spark Savvy (completes the $2,500 down payment).
- Mar 19, 2025 — $1,500 paid to Cubeval for “ISBN” (first half of a $3,000 ISBN fee). (Additional $1,500 for this ISBN fee was also collected later; total ISBN fee paid: $3,000.)
- Apr 30, 2025 — $500 paid to Texonna Marketing toward “Unlimited Printing for Life + Free Shipping” ($3,000 package).
- May 08, 2025 — $1,000 paid to Ink Lab (printing-for-life package).
- May 08, 2025 — $1,500 paid to Creative Ink (printing-for-life package; completes the $3,000 printing fee).
Total paid to date: $2,500 (down payment) + $3,000 (ISBN) + $3,000 (printing) = $8,500.
Core Issues
- As of Sep 1, 2025: Amazon still shows a free KDP-provided ISBN on the title despite Adept collecting “ISBN” funds; no personal/purchased ISBN was provisioned or used.
- Amazon pricing & printing misrepresented: Amazon allegedly takes ~60% and charges actual print cost + shipping. Adept’s promises that I would “keep $19 per copy” and that Amazon would “take only 5%” are not realistic. I was also promised “unlimited printing for life with free shipping,” which is incompatible with Amazon’s standard KDP terms.
- ISBN fee inflated: Adept charged $3,000 for an ISBN that typically costs about $125. Despite paying, my book was not set up with my own purchased ISBN or made available as promised.
- No deliverables: As of Sep 1, 2025 there is no Amazon listing in my control with my ISBN, no marketing work delivered, and no author copies delivered (promised by June 1).
- Additional upsells: After collecting the above, Adept attempted to sell me “Book Club” for $5,000 and a “Best Book Award” for $500. I declined due to lack of results and funds.
Additional Events & Evidence (Aug 29 – Sep 1, 2025)
- Aug 29, 2025 — Phone call (verbal $5,000 demand): An “Accounts Receivable” caller verbally demanded an additional $5,000 toward a “$7,500 writing fee.” The amount was disputed immediately. Contemporaneous notes kept. (Verbal; no written invoice.)
- Sep 1, 2025 — Evidence check & captures:
- Amazon KDP: dashboard shows 0 sales / 0 orders / 0 pages;
Amazon still indicates a free KDP-provided ISBN (not a paid/personal ISBN).
- Google Books: no listing located for the title.
- BookFinder: no results for the title/ISBN.
- Barnes & Noble: search surfaces unrelated titles.
- Contract excerpt: “Non-stop marketing” promise.
- Amazon KDP: dashboard shows 0 sales / 0 orders / 0 pages;
Amazon still indicates a free KDP-provided ISBN (not a paid/personal ISBN).
Relief Sought
- Immediate full refunds or delivery of the services as sold in writing, including: unlimited printing for life with free shipping and the financial terms represented; and setup of my book with an ISBN owned by me.
- Written confirmation that Adept will cease further misleading representations in sales calls.
- Preservation of records, call recordings, emails, invoices, and payment receipts.
